History
Originally founded in 1992 as MediaWorks, this manga publisher merged with ASCII in April 2008 to form ASCII MediaWorks. Although MediaWorks technically absorbed ASCII, ASCII's president Kiyoshi Takano became president of the merged company.
ASCII MediaWorks focuses primarily on the male otaku demographic, with its popular Dengeki (Lightning Shock) line of mangabon. The most popular of these is Dengeki Daioh, which has published such major hits as Azumanga Daioh, Onegai Teacher, Di Gi Charat, and the new Gurren Lagann manga. In addition to mangabon and tankobon, AMW publishes light novels and tabletop RPGs.
Although the primary focus is a male demographic, AMW also has a line of comics for women called Sylph Comics.
