Asami Sato is the daughter of industrialist Hiroshi Sato.
Asami Sato was born in Republic City to the succesful industrialist Hiroshi Sato and her mother. At a very young age, her mother was killed by a firebending gang member of the Agni Kais. Growing up with just her father, he sent her to various schools to learn how to defend herself as she was his only child. Spending most of her time around cars, Asami became a talented driver of racers and motorcycles as she would get to drive around the test track Hiroshi had at his house. Despite not having her mother, Asami grew up to be a very capable woman who loves her father.
Asami Sato was created by Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino for the new series in the Avatar franchise: The Legend of Korra. She makes her first appearance in Episode 4: The Voice in the Night. She is voiced by Seychelle Gabriel.
Asami is seen as a cheerful girl who loves thrills in her life whether its racing or watching a bending match. She expresses much joy in seeing pro-bending despite the loss of her mother in her life. Unlike her father, she harbors no resentment to benders for what happened to her, evident by her willingness to date Mako, a firebdner. She and Korra butt heads a few times over several issues, mainly when it has to do with her father being suspected of harboring the Equalists. However, wehn Asami sees the truth for herself, she is unsure what to do as her father wants her to join his side. She instead epxresses love for her father before running away, in a sullen state for the revelation she had witnessed.
After an event known as the Revelation, Asami Sato encounters pro-bender Mako after running him over with her motorcycle. Recognizing him instantly, she invites him to dinner the next night at a fancy restaurant where she fits him with a suit as she admits she has been a long time fan of his. When he reveals that he can't enter the tournament due to lack of funds, he finds out that Asami is the daughter of Hiroshi Sato as she arranges for the two to meet as she gleefully announces that Hiroshi will fund the Fire Ferrets in exchange for sponsoring his company. Asami later meets his brother Bolin and later Korra at an event held in her honor by Tarrlok. Asami also discovers that she and Mako both have lost their parents due to firebending gang members.
During the Tournament, Asami cheers the Fire Ferrets on as she is oblivious to the feelings Korra has for Mako. She treats Korra like a friend as she encourages the team to give it their all. During the Final Match between the Fire Ferrets and the Wolfbats, Hiroshi and Asami are seen cheering for the team. However, things go awry when the Wolfbats cheat their way to victory. The celebration is cut short when the Equalists and Amon attack the arena, Asami witnessing the carnage of the events and his destruction of the arena.
When Mako and Bolin are evicted from the arena because of the attack, Asami invites them to live with her and her father at their estate. Mako is grateful as is Bolin, who takes to liking the life of luxury a little too well. Korra reluctantly comes over, getting to know Asami better as a capable fighter as opposed to a prissy girl. When Korra discovers Hiroshi's ties to the Equalists, Lin Bei Fong and Tenzin investigate, much to the annoyance of Mako and Asami. Asami verbally attacks them all, condemning them as she knows her father is innocent. After coming up empty with their searches, they are tipped off that there is a factory under the house as Asami discovers things aren't quite what they appear to be. As Hiroshi and the Lieutenant corner Mako, Bolin, and the rest, Asami demands to know what's going on. Hiroshi blames people like Mako for the death of her mother and tells her to join him. Taking a power glove, she knocks him out before declaring her love for him as they flee in a metalbender zeppelin. Korra invites Asami and the brothers to live on Air Temple Island, telling Mako to comfort her as she'll need all the help she can get.
Asami pledges to work with Korra to help stop the Equalists on their own terms as she uses technology her father gave her to stop several Equalist raids. After getting under Tarrlok's skin, he attempts to oppress all non-bending citizens as the new Team Avatar intervenes. Tarrlok uses a large leap in logic to arrest Asami for being a non-bender past curfew as well as having ties to an Equalist supplier, Hiroshi. Mako and Bolin defend her but are arrested as well; later revealed, an action to blackmail Korra. When Korra goes missing, Lin frees her and the brothers from prison as they get Tenzin to help find Korra. Discovering the underground Equalist bunker, she finds out from Bolin that Mako and Korra kissed; becoming more suspicious of Mako's behavior.
After Korra's return, Asami confronts Mako on his feelings for Korra as he tries to deny it and asks if this is something that can wait. When the Equalists begin their assault on the city, she and the others mobilize but still showing resentment towards Mako. Arriving at the police headquarters, Asami incapacitates several guards in order to save Tenzin and a few officers from being captured. However, both she and Mako see in the distance the Equalists attacking Air Temple Island as they return to find that Lin and the airbender children have halted the first attacks and that Pema has had their fourth child, Rohan. Tenzin knows the city will not be safe as he instructs Korra and the group to go into hiding until he returns from putting his family somewhere safe. Reluctantly agreeing, Asami and the others hide underground until the United Forces arrive in three days.
While not gifted with the art of bending like her allies are, Asami has been shown to be excellent in several fighting styles; urged by her father to learn self defense presumably after her mother was killed. Along with her agility and prowess, Asami is also skilled with some of her father's own technology and an excellent driver as she has her own private motorcycle and speedster she uses to zoom across Republic City.
