Cruel, heartless, and rotten to the core, Arlong is a merman with a superiority complex from the Grand Line. He and his crew moves into Arlong Park, the massive base built on the same island that the village of Cocoyashi resides on. Using his influence, he now "owns" their lives.
The brutal, heartless merman who sets up shop with his crew of dangerous fishmen on the island of Nami's home village in East Blue, Arlong uses both his powerful forces and his cunning in order to essentially take over the island and make it's inhabitants pay him a staggering tax-like fee in order for them to "keep their lives". When Monkey D. Luffy, Sanji, Zoro, and Usopp arrive in order to get back their runaway navigator, Arlong and his men soon becomes the target of the Straw Hat Pirates when Luffy and the others eventually discovers the horrible truths about what Arlong has done not only to the people of Cocoyashi, but to Nami's life.
Arlong was originally created by Eiichiro Oda for use in the One Piece manga, and it is not fully known as to what inspired his creation. Arlong first appeared in both One Piece: Volume 8 and in One Piece #31. In the anime, Arlong was voiced by Jurota Kosugi (Japanese Dub) and Chris Rager (English Dub).
While all fishmen are physically superior to humans, Arlong is even considered "large" and strong among the other fishman. He mostly uses his own natural attributes to fight, the main feature being his vast strength and size. An interesting feature that makes Arlong unique and powerful is his nose, it is over a foot long and has sharp teeth running down it. It is a very sturdy weapon, and he easily uses it as a melee weapon. He can also remove his own teeth, and hold them as weapons. These are especially sturdy and very sharp, making them a vital part of his arsenal.
