The comedic story of a crazy cast of characters that live under a bridge by the Arakawa river, and the young man who finds himself dragged into their world due to his own ego.
Kou Ichinomya has had one set of principles to which he has stuck throughout his entire life: never owe a favor to anyone. This was a lesson that was drilled into his head ever since he was a toddler. Every time his father did something for him, he would make him pay it back. Every time a girl gave him a gift, he would find them and return it.
His life continued like this until one day while trying to retrieve his pants that some pranksters stuck on a bridge. As he grabbed his pants, a beam gave away and dragged him into the river below with his pants. However, a strange girl named Nino saved him before he ran out of air. Kou immediately tried to find a way to pay her back so he would not owe anything, but she doesn't want a new house, clothes, or any other expensive material items. The only thing she wants is for Kou to become her lover and live with her under the bridge.
So begins Kou's new life under the bridge, where he deals with a strange cast of people ranging from a man in a kappa suit who calls himself the Mayor to a male soldier who dresses in a nun's habit and calls himself Sister with complete seriousness. As he's getting used to this change of pace, he still has a sinking feeling that his father is nearby, waiting to drag him back home.
