Arael

Overview

Arael is the fifteenth angel it appeared in Earth's atmosphere where it penetrated Asuka's AT Field and mentally attacked her.

Creation

Arael was created by series creator Hideaki Anno and it appeared in Episode 22, At least, be human.

Major Story Arcs

After a few days have passed since the massive destruction on Nerv caused by Zeruel, Arael appeared in the earth's orbit. Unit 02 and 00 were deployed and armed with positron snipers. The weapons were unable to reach Arael who began it's attack by emitting a light beam at Unit 02 penetrating Asuka's At Field. Arael began searching Asuka's mind going through her memories causing her to relive the painful memories or her childhood and mother's suicide. Because of the mental distress Asuka completely loses synchronization and Unit 02 shuts down. Seeing no other choice Gendo orders Rei to get the Spear of Longinus from Terminal Dogma. Once retrieving the Spear Rei throws it with incredible strength to which reaches Arael destroying it and saving Asuka from it's mind rape.
