No Longer Human (Osamu Dazai)- A young man contemplates his worth to others and whether or not he is "human" from having grown up a life of neglect and abuse from his family.
In the Woods Beneath the Cherry Blossoms in Full Bloom (Ango Sakaguchi)- A forest bandit abducts a city woman as his wife and does enough to eat away at his sanity as she orders him around.
Kokoro (Natsume Soseki)- A misunderstood love triangle develops between two men and the daughter of the wealthy caretaker allowing the two men to stay in her residence.
Run, Melos! (Osamu Dazai)- A scriptwriter's struggle to write up a play with a Greek setting brings back painful memories involving his best friend thanks to the play's premise being similar to the circumstances he endured in the past.
Spider's Thread (Ryunosuke Akutagawa)- A deadly killer claiming to fear nothing is killed and deals with being in Hell.
Hell Screen (Ryunosuke Akutagawa)- A king has a painter paint what he perceives to be his "beautiful" kingdom while said painter paints a reality of death for the building out of anger and loss of sanity from the king's cruelty towards his own citizens.
