Origin
Anime Weekend Atlanta is a yearly anime convention that is held in Atlanta, Georgia. The first AWA was in October 1995 at the Castlegate Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. In the years after that, the venue moved to different location with each passing convention until 2003 where it has made permanent residence at the Cobb Galleria Centre and Renaissance Waverly Hotel in north Atlanta. As the convention grew, so did the attendance and the guest list as each passing year accumulates more attention than the last.
Anime Weekend Atlanta hosts some standard convention events such as cosplay contests, dealers room, video gaming, panels with members of the anime industry, and more. Each year adds new excitement and events and has been the host to some world premieres, including the premiere of AMV Hell 4 and 5.
In 2008, Anime Weekend Atlanta gained recognition in United States convention news as it was listed by AnimeCons.com that it was in the top ten of largest conventions in the country, gaining the title of "Largest Anime Convention in the South".
