Well, I try the first episode of the series. I actually got hooked in it. It must be the whole revenge against the military for the death of a high school crush because you're a pushover who wants a world without winning and losing that got me.

The ending was surprising and different from the your usual mech series. I never suspected the main character, Haruto, to get killed by L-elf.

Suddenly from behind, Haruto bit L-elf's neck.

This show is for mature audience. There is a lot of graphic violence and some fan service stuff like this boob grope scene I didn't notice until I was hunting for default images for the characters.

Why is the loli girl fondling her teacher's boobs? She doesn't even notice her student groping her.

I thought that scene was kind of funny. Your space colony is being invaded by militia/giant robots and the first thing you do is fondle the girl next to you.

@Acura_Max:

Yeah, it was funny. I hope Marie stays alive. I mean they killed Shoko fast.

At the Tokyo Anime Center in the Akihabara UDX building, there was a expo on Valvrave. Here's the video.

This one might be somewhere else, but giant robot statues are giant robot statues.

Out of the 3 mecha shows this season, this first episode was certainly the most frustrating. Sunrise usually goes to lengths to justify both the combat performance and willingness of the child to climb into the cockpit, from the child of renowned engineers, to child soldiers, to literal super humans. Haruto's debut sadly falls short on both counts.

That speaks nothing to his inability to grasp so simple of a UI that the entire audience understood immediately.

@Turambar: I think the series did explain how Haruto did so well in the robot. It looked like the robot had something close to the Gundam Unicorn's system where the robot does the fighting or the pilot just thinks something and the robot does it.

Not quite. You can clearly notice thrust control sticks on the two sides of the pilot seat, much like the Unicorn without the NTD system active. Banagher also at least has the justification that his education, which is designed to ensure him a job at Anaheim electronics, would teach him at least basic control of a mobile suite.

@takashichea: It Friday, so I'll do the second episode summary right now

Spoilers below

@Turambar: Yup, you were right. In this episode, they clearly showed Haruto controling the Valvrave, but there was still no explanation as to how he was able to defeat trained soldiers.

It also seemed really implausible that Shoko was able to get inside that car in that split second that the laser took to reach where she was standing. It seemed like a cop out. Well, it might interesting to see how Haruto deals with the idea that he had killed people now that he no longer has justification that he's doing it to avenge Shoko.

Well, Haruto has certainly shown himself to be quite...absurd. It feels like Sunrise is trying to create their own Shinji, except what made Ikari's character work was consistency in feelings (I don't want to do this) and motivations (I want to get the praise of my father). Haruto on the other hand switches from that of a cold blooded killer to one hell of a wuss. This contrast plays out in combat as well, being a complete novice one minute, and dodging like an ace the next.

Well, we'll see how creative the combat will get once the various modes get factored in.

Oh, a love triangle or unrequited love

I can't believe Shoko is still alive. Haruto has this strange ability to transfer himself into people's body to control them. I think the Valvrave needs his blood for Haruto to sync and control the mech well. There's something going on between Rukino and Haruto. I remember he avoided her in one of the scene.

It seems like the series knows how implausible it was for Haruto to pilot the Valvrave without any training. So I'm guessing they are saving the answer for a plot twist. I'm going to guess that the Valvrave has inject Haruto the instructions to control the Valrave, so Haruto will know how to use the robot instinctively like how he was able to use a gun in L-elf's body. It sounds implausible, but so does rigging 4 floors with bombs in 15 minutes and predicting that you will meet someone at an exact location at an exact time. Speaking of which, the latest episode (episode 4) really has some twists and turns that are just hard to believe.

Only thing I was thinking of after that line.

Shoko: Everyone, ARUS is going to abandon us and steal our super ultra weapon.

Dude: We don't believe you.

Shoko: Then I'll strip until you do!

Dude: Fine, we believe you.

What madness is this? If I were him, I would have continued not believing her.

Also, the independence idea is pretty stupid. What are they going to do for food, water, and electricity? This is why you don't make political decisions that affect the rest of the colony in less than a day.

Also, I was getting a L-elf x Haruto vibe in this episode. Anyone else get that? Just me? Fine.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO strange. I was just looking at this on wiki. Without any spoilers - what is this like?

@Supreme Marvel:

will have a better explanation than me. I'm going to say it's like Gundam and Code Geass combo. It's about JIOR, a country that remained neutral until Dorssian invade them. We have a wimpy boy, a cool guy (L-elf) that serves as his Foil, and mecha.

Just try the first episode. It has a nice surprise at the end.

@Supreme Marvel: Taka is right. It's like a combination of Code Geass and Gundam, but it's more like Code Geass since the series really does not try to make its universe realistic like in the Gundam series. I hope you enjoy it if you ever decide to watch it.

For all you Haruto x Shoko shippers, here's a cute picture.

@Acura_Max:

I need to catch up as well as watching Code Geass. Haruto and Shoko remind me of Lelouch and Shirley. We'll find who represent Lelouch and C.C. in Valvrave huh? Where is the witch in this series? I was laughing when I was commenting here.

@Acura_Max:

I found some good sources that will help us make the wiki pages.

You know how , , and the others add Gundams as objects. I accidentally added Valvrave as a concept page. Then, we came up with a solution to add specific models as objects under the Valvrave concept page.

Well, I found the official website that has tons of cool specs on the individual Valvrave.

The hard part is taking down the Japanese names for this mecha and other concepts. I can't read them or copy and paste them from the website.

Same applies to Ideal.
