Welcome to the Unbreakable Machine Dolls discussion thread.
Come here to chat about the latest episodes, the characters, plot, or the series in general.

Genre: Action, Fantasy, Romance

Produced by Lerche

It is the early 20th century, and Raishin Akabane is a student puppeteer from Japan, who has come to the Walpurgis Royal Academy of Machine Arts in England - to study the emerging field of Machinart: a combination of magic and technology with military applications. He is accompanied by a girl named Yaya, who is actually his Automaton: a living machine doll powered by magical circuits and controlled by a human puppeteer as a weapon. In the Academy, there is a combat tournament exclusive to the Top 100 students and their automata, to decide who shall be known as the greatest puppeteer. It is there that Raishin aims to achieve his objectives, with the help of Yaya, the Unbreakable Machine Doll.

Here's a list of things we want to do in the wiki, why not help cross some of them off? Also feel free to make suggestions.

  • Create character pages.
  • Add images and summaries to episode pages.

Important Pages

When editing the wiki (particularly episode and volume pages) it's helpful to use this section as a reference guide.

Locations
When adding locations, don't forget to add parent locations. For example, when adding Japan to an episode or volume, Earth should also be added. Locations appearing in flashback sequences generally don't count.

Recurring Pages: ?

Objects
Objects should be specific rather than general, like Natsu's Scarf instead of just Scarf or Purgatory Armor instead of Plate Armor. General objects are being removed from the wiki.

Surprised this has not got more coments. At 1st you think its just fanservice but its really really not.By the 3rd episode its a fairly deep world built upon steampunk ,magic an even a bit of jack the ripper.Good animeion an a surprising deeper story.

@Marshal Victory: I agree with that, it caught me by surprise good series so far.

@Sonata: ment to say "animation" sigh not animeion :/ 8th grade spellig strikes again.Really like this show 3rd episode pushs it further along to a deeper story.I may have been to quick to say their was not a attack on titan replacement.This series has the basics for good shonen.Besides its deeper world build It is reveling characters at the right plot pace for me.

Just dont know if it will go into the horror aspect as much.The forbin dolls tho may be that lacking part.

@Marshal Victory:

This show looks interesting. It gave me the Guilty Crown vibe when you have the male heroine and the female heroine as his "weapon." I tried to make a list of female characters are essentially a "weapon" to the male protagonist. I thought it was too sexist. (I had Inori Yuzuriha, Saber, and the girls, the female weapons, in Soul Eater)

As for fan service, I thought this show was full of it when I looked at the poster artwork from Megami and Nyantype.

@Destinyheroknight:

Wow, I can't believe I didn't think of that. It's a great title, and it's clear. I was going for females that are not technically weapons but they fight for the male hero. I'm going to scrap that and just go with your idea.

All right, which one do you to do, women or men? I bet you're going with the gals who are weapons.

We already have a lot of those female weapons listed in our previous conversations, so you can just cramp them into a list.

Considering male weapon characters, I'll have to give it some thought. I bet there is some of them in reverse harem series (naturally).

One more thing, you should specify that female weapons are used by men, and vice versa... or did you plan on going with "female weapons" regardless of who is using them. That would greatly expand the lists.

It's not bad actually. And I like how the lead character actually uses his brain and is not just yelling around.

@takashichea: Hmm had not thought of Guilty Crown similarities.Might be cause that show for me started strong an got weeker.This one at least so far seems to get stronger.As other are pointing out looks like some have male weaposn to . An in the show the T rex girl has a male dragon "forbind" doll.Plus Soul Eater the main character her weapon was male.So to me i didnt see it sexist in the least.

But that said the shows teaser vids an promotion posters sure did play up fanservice angle.By far more than what the shows based on for sure.Not that it can not add more or has none at all.I mean his doll has a heavy crush on him.An he has a crush on its maker.Its so far at least darker in tone to than said promotional items.

@ComicMan24: I like he also fights along side his "doll" as well to make up for his lack of skill.Plus he treats them as human .Dont think hes as clever as say Detective Conan but he does seem to be a thinker.

@Sonata: Well i really do test out at a 8th grade spelling an 10th grade english usage .Tested out as that senior year in high school.So 26 years later still not much improvement .Art teacher told me its because i can draw .The old left side vs right side brain usage argument.To which i would tell her most people would be surprised i had even half a brain :)

Heck what typing skills i have ( really more lack there of) leanred from playing Everquest on a ergonomic keyboard.If im sick/stresssed words play to ,like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyslexia .So words will at times looks spelled right an spell checker is not that great a help to me.Its also the reason to i link names in coments more so i dont misspell important parts an provice links to the shows/characters talking about to.

@Marshal Victory:

I was wrong. This show doesn't remind me of Guilty Crown, just the element of having a girl being your partner.

I watched the first few episodes. I'm surprised that I'm enjoying it. It's on my watch list. That blonde girl, forgot her name, is such a typical tsundere. I couldn't help but be amused by her. Yaya is so aggressive in her romantic conquest of Raishin.

@takashichea: Glade to hear ya liken it.I need to cach up on anime .Have been playing http://store.steampowered.com/app/238960/?snr=1_7_15__13 its captured my imagination an free time. but tonight gona get cought up on anime again.An said anime discussions hehe.

This has been a awsome season alot of good animaiton an stories. Think i have only droped 3 titles. An this title is quickly working its way onto my dvd/blueray buy list.Watched Soul Eater 1st 6 episodes on blue ray the other day.Dsl modem died for the night .An gota say for that title it made a difrence.If their is a anime title that shows how to do cgi in anime right its that one.

In Unbreakable Machine Dolls i really like the dragons discussions with Yaya.the voice actor plays stright man very well just on emotional voice tone.

Seen 6 an theirs a huge mistake in it!!!! at bagpipes play an we hear.. flutes! Very unpleasant.

Other than that it was good.

At 8 we hear " I am a humble and tolerant man." a few times to many.Wonder if he knows what ironic means.

Edit at 10 Really like the straight forward forshadowing."Yaya were going to kick this mans arse an rescue char an henri."

@Marshal Victory:

I was going to marathon it, but I end up watching a few episodes. Finished the Cannibal Candy arc. I found Yaya's petty jealously amusing. I swear there is some CG with the characters excluding the obvious automatons. Fan Service is on par with Strike the Blood, not too excessive like Kill la Kill.

Post by Marshal Victory (2,652 posts) See mini bio Level 14

@takashichea: cgi has been the not great this whole season for many titles. Ghost in the shell arise part two probly used ti most fluidly.Animation studios should understand when they use cgi its not movies they are in compition with its video games.When the cgi looks better in video game cut sceens than in animation an doesnt stick out thats a problem because the same tech can be used for both.

This show tho its not bothered me as much as say Tokyo Ravens or Freezing.Some have fit in great like in Outbreak Company its not noticiable.Which is the point.I would rahter have whole seires look like RWBY than have a mix of cgi an anime .Good cgi is not noticable.

All that said Unbreakable Machine Dolls was based off some light novels if i recall.An while it seems light hearted its got some darker under curents.Human experimentation.Use of humans in forbiden dolls.Sub goverment plots least 3 by my count atm.At least 2 revenge sub plots runing n the background as well.It plays light heartd at times but its really got some bloody undertone an what ecchi thats in it mostly plays off for comedy.Which im sure some would consider dark humor but i dont see it that way.

Post by Marshal Victory (2,652 posts) See mini bio Level 14

11 was pretty good.Starting to feel more shonen tho.Really dig the character traits thats developed.Shame some may have just thought of this show as another ecchi anime.

I watched a bit of the next arc. There is a new character Frey whose traps makes Yaya furious with her master. I just can't stop being amused by Yaya. I wonder how long will it take for me to be bored by Yaya. Yaya's little sister is also naughty. I thought automatons don't grow up.

Post by Marshal Victory (2,652 posts) See mini bio Level 14

@takashichea: They explain it a bit as things go on.How living into dolls make baned dolls but baned dolls can evolve into something else.

Finished 12 an rumors of a ova are out their.So if ova does well that means second season.If not hope they tie up some lose ends. Its goning on my average an above list now.Story at times is very light hearted then bloody .Its not as ecchi as one would think.Animtion is average to good. Some cgi i felt were not that great.An since its based off the light novels it did the chapter arcs to an mostly did them right.Basicly it in 12 episodes set up a world added 4 or 5 sub plots to the main story an moved along at a pretty fast an fair clip.

@Marshal Victory:

I almost caught up. I'm one episode behind. I don't know why they made the younger sister, Henri, look like a twin of Charlotte. I heard there is a OVA. I'm getting ready to post winter trailers. It's time of the year to start making the new seasonal guide. The only difference is that we make the discussion threads not trailers anymore.

This series is becoming a harem. You got Yaya, Charlotte (who doesn't want to admit it), and now Frey. I don't get these light novel series.
