Welcome to the The Devil is a Part Timer! discussion thread.
Come here to chat about the latest episodes, the characters, plot, or the series in general.

Alias: Hataraku Maou-sama!

Genre: Comedy, Romance, Shounen

Plot: In another dimension the Devil King Sadao is only one step away from conquering the world when he is beaten by Hero Emilia and forced to drift to the other world: modern-day Tokyo. As "conquering the world" are the only skills the Devil King possesses - and are obviously unnecessary in his new situation - he must work as a freeter to pay for his living expenses.

The first episode was weird. I was watching a super cool war between humans and demons at the beginning, and then, the demon king and his right hand man escaped to the human world. They find out they have no magic and have to work at MacDonalds to make a living while finding a way to get their magic back.

So, it becomes comedic towards the middle and end of the episode.

It's a bit surprising, but I'm hooked on the series. Oh, the "hero" and "demon king" roles are opposite to the genders for Maoyu, a male hero and a female demon king.

@UsachanMaN:

Thanks to your recommendation, I liked this show. I didn't watch the trailer before the anime. If I did, I would had a different expectation.

Edit:

I think you should try Karneval. It's a colorful yet dark series which is the vibe I'm getting.

It did look pretty cool at the beginning, but to be fair, we've all seen heroes fighting demons in anime before. How many anime series are set in fake McDonalds? I bet there aren't many!

I definitely enjoyed the first episode, should be interesting to see where they go from here.

I'm not sure why, but I made a wiki page for the not-McDonalds and filled it out in detail.

@Daniel_Newton:

I think Kore wa Zombie desu Ka? had Mask Donalds? Beelzebub has a MacDonalds but it's with spelled with a "W." That's all I remembered.

@takashichea: Yeah, looks like the parody wiki page covers that stuff pretty well. Because it's so fleshed out in this series (and it's a major location in the anime) I thought it would be fun to make a wiki page for it.

@takashichea: No problemo! And sorry for the late reply!! I watched the first ep of Karneval, that stuff is creepy! But it did peak my interest :P Will probably continue watching it :P

(Oh and btw, I think you could write up a cool synopsis for this anime! :D Lool I'm not really that good at writing short summaries, but if you really want me to, I could write it up :D )

@UsachanMaN:

Oh no, I didn't write the summary for Hataraku no Maou. It was The guy was fast and took the page before me. I was about to do it, but I got caught up doing the other anime series. I will do Karneval.

We could take turns with DocHaus writing the summary.

@takashichea: Oh I see! :D I'll actually be caught up with finals for the next couple of weeks so my activity will be quite low :( But if ever you guys need a hand with the series, just give me a shout! :D

@UsachanMaN:

Oh, I see. Okay, good luck on your finals. Yeah, I should be studying, too. Yet, I'm always doing some wiki in my break time.

I remember you found those nice magazine scans for Sword Art Online. Can I count you to find some nice images like those for this series?

Episode 2 was fun to watch. I found out that Emi is a bit lonely and a tsundere. Didn't notice Chiho was busty. Ahem, not that I was looking at her chest.

I was wondering about the earthquakes. I look up, and Japan's map is dotted with earthquakes. It's pretty common. In California, we freak out about earthquakes.

Guess what I was eating when watching this show?

Yeah, I didn't do it on purpose! It was a coincidence on Friday when I came home from school with MacDonalds. I asked my little sis what to watch, some Fairy Tail reruns and this show.

This show is alright, I just hope it doesn't become overly cliched. No harem/love triangle/tonal shift, please. I just want to see the dude working his way up the fast food corporate ladder in amusing ways.

I saw the first two episodes and I like what I see. This show is pretty easy to get into. I actually saw episode 2 first and felt that I didn't miss a beat.

Episode 4 is awesome. Lots of romantic problems for the demon king with two girls and lots of misunderstandings. It's nice to see Emilia's past. Turns out she is the daughter of an Angel. I was wondering how will that play out in the future if Sadao and Emi might fall for each other.

An angel's daughter and a demon king = trouble.

Look, Lucifer's joining the fun!

Don't know who the artist is (aside from the "cicada-san" signature in the bottom-right) but I thought you lunatics would enjoy the crossover.

Here is the secret to the demon language

Entean is basically letter substition English, with vowel keeping their original position.

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ

AZYXEWVTISRLPNOMQKJHUGFDCB

for example,

Human→Tupan

Majesty→Pasejhc

World→Foklx

Let us go→Leh uj vo
