Pilot was interesting. May want to avoid other forums about this show tho. Some comments on how happy it made some people to remember 9/11 just were vile. Other than that were looking at something made by the director of Cowboy Bebop. bit more info on the characters here http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-03-21/cowboy-bebop-director-watanabe-composer-kanno-make-zankyo-no-terror-anime

2nd episode was pretty sharp. Animation to back grounds to illustrations was crisp an clean. An the story may end up being deep.

When a story uses https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oedipus as a plot devise can not be that shallow. Could be the sleeper of the season for me. As I was really worried this might be some glorification of terrorists. So far so good.

Another cinematic summer anime. I would expect no less from the director of Cowboy Bebob and the music of Yoko Kanno! A smile like the sun and eyes cold as ice, huh? I'm a sucker for snow environments, so that opening was really awesome! But what exactly did those guys steal, a nuclear bomb? And how, if at all, are they related to the two boys Touji and Arata?

I couldn't help thinking that the stuffed animal's mouth looked like balls.. So uhh.. 9/11 anyone? I feel sorry for Lisa, choose between death and being a terrorist.. isn't that some form of coercion? I wonder what a legal case would determine if a trial were held right after the events of episode 1. We don't know much about the backstory of the two boys, except it sounds like they were trained in some special facility along with other children to become 'terrorists', but not everyone survived training. Since they refer to each other as Nine and Twelve in private, there would be atleast 10 other kids like them, or were.

The question at this point is what does 'being an accomplice' entail, and how far will Lisa have to go with these two in their affairs. Will we see them return to 'daily life', or will martial law start taking effect, and paranoia start sinking in? It sounds like the boys could have Lisa on permanent black mail, and a short leash if they really wanted to.

The other weird question is, why is Lisa's mom continually texting her? Maybe she is being 'bullied' by her mom. Which could entail anything from nagging to actual physical abuse. Interesting that they decided not to translate the text messages from her mom.

Where is this show streaming? I didn't catch a CR announcement and I looked on Hulu a week or so back and it didn't have a page.

edit: NM it's up now. Sigh. I really wish Funi would either make an app or Hulu would drop the whole you have to pay to watch ads on a console philosophy.

I've read the translation on another board. Her mother is just worrying too much about her daughter, asking if she has had her lunch and if she's getting along with her friends and so on.

@sickVisionz:

Sorry for not updating the thread. Yes, it's on FUNimation. HULU tends to do a week later. I hate HULU for not making a simulcast announcement for their titles. It forces me to assume it will take FUNimation stuff, and I have to search to confirm. HULU doesn't always take all of FUNi's shows.

I do have the Crunchyroll's Summer 2014 Simulcasts and FUNimation's Summer 2014 Simulcast lists updated with the latest news. I haven't made the master simulcast guide because I'm waiting (since July 11th) for new updates from Crunchyroll and FUNimation. FUNimation hasn't finished and Crunchyroll said stay tuned for more updates (see thread).

On-Topic:

This is on my watch list. Reminds me of Coppelion.

Im loving this season. This show has the best second episode out of the rest IMO. I really enjoyed it.

@Kobra678: @takashichea: God I'm falling behind I still have a lot to catch up on.

That being said god that kid gives me the chill.

The boys face his like a soulless doll.

Ep2: So Lisa's mom has abandonment problems. It's still not completely clear if the boys are the masterminds, or just carrying out a plan, but it does seem like they are very independent, capable and comfortable working with each other. The explaining of Oedipus' story felt bland, probably because I've studied it so much xD, but I still feel like they could have done something more interesting with how it was told. The twist of the riddle wasn't that inventive either, but I guess it says something about the intended audience of this show. I don't know whether Oedipus is taught as widely in Eastern countries as it is in Western countries.

So stereotypical fat officers in Japan know all about ramen, while stereotypical fat officers in America know all about donuts? Mmm ramen.. Lisa's appearances in this episode only really served to remind us of her status as an 'accomplice' but not a friend, and how she is a loner and doesn't have any friends. She ends up feeling secondary, and a bystander to the whole plot, especially contrasted with the hectic police investigation. Maybe in future episodes Lisa will assert her agency and do something more significant to change the flow of the plot?

The explanation for melting the building's columns was nice. Reminds me of how flares work underwater. Haha maybe someone who is more scientifically knowledgable would find these explanations tedious, like how I found the explaining of Oedipus tedious xD oh well.

3rd was subtle an good. The subtle part is the color saturation for the episode changes with the good detective. How his past in Hiroshima as a second generation survivor shaped him. The color fade out from that point on about summer was a subtle touch.

Show now feels 10 miles deep. Great illustration style. Good animation. Fair amount of drama with a slow burn on the players history in this. Good stuff.

Finally trying out the pilot. I wasn't really pulled in this series. Show reminded me of Copellion a bit with the coloring. Op is pretty good while the heavy guitar soundtrack is great. I give this show another shot.

@takashichea: Lisa's mother needs therapy.

That's really all I have to say.
