In addition to being smart, pretty, and popular; Kirino Kosaka is also an obsessive consumer of anime and eroge (adult computer games). After being assured that Kyousuke is committed to not mock her and keep this concealed from their parents, she starts to share a bit of her world with him. Kirino faces several problems as she tries to keep the appearances and balance her exemplar school life with her hobbies. I bug Daniel too much on Twitter when I should have asking my questions here!

Anyway, I will try this series. I found out there's tsundere, little sister archetype character in this show. Heaven knows if I can tolerate another tsundere character. Haruhi Suzumiya (depends on your view on what is a tsundere) and Astarotte Ygvar drive me crazy.

@takashichea: It sounds like someone is going to have alot of anime to view this season! So much anime, so little time; it is the curse of ever otaku.

I've been seeing this anime series everywhere,but I never thought about taking a look. Maybe I'll give it a go later.

@Acura_Max:

I probably won't be able to finish Oreimo's first season in time. I have to try the first episode tonight if I have time. I thought this series was like Oreshura or Oregairu because the main image shows one lucky guy and two girls. For Kirino, time will tell.

For all the harem and faux-incest in the show, the first season actually managed to do some rather clever things with the theme of justifying one's hobbies. The second season has a lot to live up to.

I tried Oreimo's first episode from season 1. It got me interested in the series unlike Haganai's first episode. When she pulled out all those little sister themed eroge, I was pretty weirded out. At the end, she wanted her big brother to play an eroge game. That scene was hilarious.

By episode 3, I end up liking Oreimo even though I find it weird.

@Daniel_Newton:

Well, I'm hooked on this series. I'm on episode 5. I feel bad for Kyousuke who makes so much sacrifice on his reputation to help Kirino. I can see why people hate her now. Counting on big bro to bail her out.

How much will Kyosuke fall?

I should be able to catch up to season 2 since Oreimo is pretty entertaining. I thought after episode 3, there will not much to do story wise. I was wrong.

Edit:

Episode 6 was interesting. It didn't feature a lot of Kirino. Instead, Manami, the childhood friend, and her family are spotlighted. It was entertaining. Love her grandparents especially grandpa who keeps shipping and pushing Manami and Kyousuke.

Edit:

I can't remember what episode. Though, I see some kind of connection between Kirino & Kousuke and KuroNeko & and his little sister. I remember KuroNeko was envious of how Kousuke sacrifice so much to help Kirino just because they're siblings. For KuroNeko, she loves her little sister. I see that Kirino and KuroNeko had swapped things (sort of). Kirino likes little sisters, but she doesn't have one while KuroNeko has one. I don't know if KuroNeko wants an older brother.

Edit:

I finally finished season 1. Then, I discover there was a true route. I'm curious what is the true route of Oreimo. This makes me think that the anime series look like one big ass dating simulation game. Though, the only girls I seen as participants are Kirino, KuroNeko, and maybe Ayase. Though, Ayase didn't interact much with Kyousuke.

KURONEKOOOOOOO <3

Episode 2 had a bit of reversal fun. Kyousuke was taking Kirino's place and acting like the Otaku. Love Ayase's yandere part at the end.

It was great to find out Saori's back story, but I find Saori a bit shallow since she blamed her older sister for making the Pretty Garden disperse.

Favorite quote for Kyosuke in Oreimo so far:

Kyousuke: "You said it so cutely... it got my hopes up! Dammit! I knew it was a trap! Damn you, Ayase! How dare you toy with my maidenly heart!"
— Kyousuke telling Ayase
05:06

Ever since that true route, the series is heading with Kuroneko and Kyousuke pairing. Though, it seems suspicious that their relationship is going well.

"Break up with senpai"
"Break up with senpai"

Then at the end, Kuroneko reveal her ulterior motives to help Kirino and Kyousuke get along in her ideal world. It was an amusing surprise twist that just gnaws on my heart.

I hate this so much! I understand what Ruri is doing and it's cute and selfless, but damn it, I really like Kyousuke and Kuroneko together. She clearly actually loves him too.

I have a weird suspicion we might get a branching point in the series again soon, like we did with season 1 and the true route. One option has them break up, the other has them stay together. At least if that happens I'll get to see them as a couple for a little longer, I guess.

Kuroneko played Kyousuke well. Man, Kirino is pretty selfish. She hates her brother but doesn't like him having a girlfriend. This relationship is pretty complicated.

Kirino: "I hate my brother! But... I never want to see my brother with a girlfriend! I want to be the most important person to him!"

Though, I wonder if Kuroneko had feelings for Kyousuke. She was blushing like crazy in the past episodes.

The biggest WTF scene ever!

I couldn't believe what I heard from Kuroneko. That's just insane. When Kyousuke asks Kuroneko if Kirino was serious about having sex, I was just falling out of my chair.

Kuroneko: "I wouldn't mind if Kyousuke had sex with his actual sister! I am that girl's best friend. I know what she wants more than anyone else, and I'm her greatest ally. If Kyousuke were the kind of brute who welcomed xxx, I would still love him, and if Kirino wished it, I would happily hand first place over to her! What about you? Would you be able to accept Kirino if she loved her brother as a man?"
— Kuroneko telling Ayase that she knows Kirino better
18:37

Another scene I enjoyed was Kanako bring out the eroge and asking him what the girl was doing.

Kyousuke: She is eating a sausage.

I was losing my mind. My parents and friends who were out barbecuing got concerned when they were hearing me laughing from all the way outside.

I couldn't focus on my wiki job, but I managed to finish episode 11's page.

Edit:

I betting the OVAs for Oreimo 2 would be about Ayase.

Daniel, I have finished all of Oreimo 2 and Oreimo True Route summaries!

I still wonder what would the OVAs be based on. I originally thought it would be Ayase based on episode 12. However, season 1's OVAs continue off from the last episode based on the decision: Kirino going to America or not. Somehow, that led to Kuroneko route.

I'm still betting on Ayase.

Bringing the conversation over to this thread.

Nah, I think we're done with Ayase. I found the title of episode 13 really misleading, I was expecting Kirino to confess to Kyousuke, but... it might make sense to keep the TV broadcast "clean" and save that for the three online-only episodes. So, yeah, I'm kind of expecting the OVAs to be an incest route of some kind. How far they'll actually go with it, I don't know.

At least we got the full back story behind Kyousuke and Kirino's relationship now though, it sure explained a lot. Watching Kirino become an otaku was funny as hell.

@Daniel_Newton:

Yeah that makes sense. I'm going to do the Oreimo relationship diagram blog. Something has been bugging me ever since that drunk incident. This episode just pop up some stuff I thought I erased from my head.

It was interesting to see how Kirino became a brocon while Kyousuke became more average. Manami's quote was a slap to Kirino's face, but man, it's great to see Manami get some spotlight in a while.

@Daniel_Newton:

This is my failed attempt to do a diagram by hand. I was thinking of scanning and then using Paint.Net to paste the profile portraits.

Since I'm running out of time and got to head back to Church, here it is. I couldn't fit in Saori or Manami.

Ever since my drunk incident with Oreimo, episode 13 did some havoc on me. The gears starts winding in my head, and I'll try to forget.

There is one line in Oreimo that has been bugging me:

I'm going to white it out.

You know in season 1, Ayase and Saori commented on how Kyousuke and Kirino do not look brother and sister. That line is burning a hole in me. When you mention an incest route, maybe things are not what they seem to be.

@takashichea: It's a good diagram, not sure where you got the "has feelings but can't admit it" part for Kuroneko though. She's made it clear on multiple occasions how she feels about Kyousuke, and they did go out with each other.

Hmmm, I hadn't thought of that. It's a bit of a stretch, but certainly not impossible. It would be like a weird reversal on the brother/sister relationship in Star Wars, haha.

I wish we didn't have to wait for the net-only episodes...

They are related by blood for the light novel/ manga/ anime. One of the dating sim games made altered things slightly by making the two into cousins if you chose a Kirino route..

You might want to overhaul the relationship chart a bit considering details that are revealed on the relations between characters in the light novels and anime, especially with Kuroneko who does admit her feelings to Kyosuke in the middle of the second season.

I'll try seeing if I can do my own chart of the character relationships.

@Daniel_Newton:

Silly me, I forgot that Kuroneko loves Kyousuke as much as Kirino loves her big brother. Don't worry, I won't make that mistake on her relationships for character wiki page.

I wasn't too clear. I'm thinking Kyousuke and Kirino are not blood related. It sounds crazy, but that's what I'm guessing from the drunk episode. Don't know if I did a good job of dumping the light novel ending out of my system. Memories are fuzzy. I can't wait for the OVAs in August.

@Dream:

Oh cool! I would love to see your diagram. Yeah, I have to rework this. I couldn't find the most effective arrangement. On the right, I planned to have Saori on the corner bordering Kuroneko and Kirino while Manami is on the corner bordering Kyousuke and Ayase. With episode 12-13 had passed, things got complicated. I didn't know Manami played a big role in Kyousuke and Kirino's relationship.

Thanks guys for pointing out the flaws.

Yeah, I understood you. That's why I said it would be a reversal of the Star Wars scenario. They find out that they aren't related and can have a relationship.

But, like I said, it's a bit of a stretch. To have readers believe Kyousuke and Kirino are blood related all this time and then suddenly reveal they aren't would be a pretty bold move to say the least.

And here's the chart:

I did leave out Saori intentionally considering she's mostly on friendly terms with those among her circle of friends (Kirino, Kyosuke, Kuroneko) and isn't involved in the lovely relationship mess that these six get caught up in. I didn't have enough space in the diagram to highlight details on the extent of the relationships, so I'll give a quick summary on each:

Kyosuke

  • Kirino- Younger sister with strained relationship that improves through their "life consultation" sessions. Possibly has romantic feelings for her considering he's turned down the feelings of Ayase and Manami, plus got jealous of her in her "fake date" scheme.
  • Ayase- Have some form of hostility in their interactions with one another whenever they meet since Kyosuke ruined his good name to get Ayase's friendship with Kirino reconciled when the former discovered Kirino was an otaku and Kyosuke's "sexual harassment" of her furthers this hostility. Eventually return to being on good terms with one another despite Kyosuke turning down her feelings for him.
  • Manami- Childhood friend whom Kyosuke usually consults on major decisions involving Kirino and others. Turned down her confession towards him later in the series.
  • Kuroneko- Become close friends through their interactions with one another in Saori's offline meetings and during Kirino's trip to America. Would date for the summer until Kuroneko dumps him in her plot to reduce the strain in Kirino and Kyosuke's bond.

Kirino

  • Kyosuke- Older brother with strained relationship that improves through their "life consultation" sessions. Possibly has romantic feelings for him as she immensely idolized him as a child and gets jealous in his interactions with Kuroneko and Manami.
  • Ayase- Best friend and fellow model.
  • Manami- Hostile towards her for Kyosuke's friendship with her and shattering Kirino's illusion of seeing Kyosuke as the "perfect big brother".
  • Kuroneko- Otaku friend, with some hostility towards one another for their differing tastes in otaku fandom and Kyosuke's growing interest in Kuroneko.
  • Kanako- Friend and fellow model.

Ayase

  • Kyosuke- Perceived him as a pervert and lolicon from the guy giving up his good name to reconcile her friendship with Kirino. Despite behaving violently towards him at points, turns to Kyosuke for advice in interacting with Kirino. Had a crush on him before he ruined his good name, yet said crush was restored when Kyosuke saved her from a stalker (light novels only). While saddened from being turned down in her confession towards him, the two remain on good terms with one another.
  • Kirino- Best friend and fellow model whom Ayase greatly admires.
  • Manami- A "big sister" figure whom Ayase turns to for advice and has a strong bond with.
  • Kanako- Friend and fellow model.
  • Kuroneko- Hostile towards one another due to their feelings towards Kyosuke when they meet one another at his apartment.

Manami

  • Kyosuke- Childhood friend whom usually lends advice to Kyosuke. Has a one-sided crush on him and was turned down by Kyosuke towards the end of the series.
  • Ayase- Have a strong bond with one another with Manami usually lending advice to her.

Kuroneko

  • Kyosuke- Close friend with a romantic interest in him. Both dated for the summer, yet she dumps him in a plot to strengthen the bond between Kyosuke and Kirino. Despite this, still holds romantic feelings for him.
  • Kirino- Fellow otaku friend, with some hostility towards one another for their differing tastes in otaku fandom and their interest in Kyosuke.
  • Ayase- Hostile towards one another due to their feelings towards Kyosuke when they meet one another at his apartment.

Kanako

  • Kirino- Friend and fellow model.
  • Ayase- Friend and fellow model.
  • Kyosuke- Considers him her "first fan" during the time he posed as her manager. Possibly has feelings for him when she brought over her homemade cooking for him to try out while at his apartment and got jealous of him eating the food that the other girls prepared for him at his moving-in party.
