Welcome to the Nobunaga the Fool discussion thread.
Come here to chat about the latest episodes, the characters, plot, or the series in general.

Genre: Action, Sci-fi
Produced by: Satelight

Plot: The planets of the East and the West were once connected by the Ama-no-Hashidate. The culture that built it was destroyed countless years ago, and the two planets have had separate histories ever since. On the Western planet, ancient culture is experiencing a renaissance after a long period of war. Jeanne Kaguya D'Arc, a girl from the Western Planet, was prophesied to be the Savior of the World at her birth. With Leonard Da Vinci, she lands on the Eastern Planet, where Nobunaga "the Fool" longs for the power to change the world, as his planet is still locked in a war where many heroes vie for supremacy. When these two people meet, the culture of both worlds will be transformed.

Almost as heavy in cgi as style.Neat art direction an design style.Its not a sword mech series Or at least doesnt seem that way on the 1st episode.Mechs look good to.Tho the famous names from history warped into this was touch off center.Rest felt real solid for a 1st episode.

@Marshal Victory:

I gave this show a try since I didn't know which one to try on Crunchyroll. I say Nobunagun fare better for me than this show. This was a confusing start because I thought it dealt with different time zones until I read the synopsis afterwards. Turns out we have different planets that diverged. Characters are eye candy as well as their mechs. I probably follow on this show.

This Nobunaga piece revolves around mechs and tarot cards and maybe something else.

@takashichea: Till ya put it that way about the mechs an tarot cards i didnt think of the conection to The Vision of Escaflowne .I could do with out the mixed up historical figures but for a 1st episode it really wasnt bad at all. Animation was good to.An now that i think more of it the cgi mech parts were not bad .Least they didnt break with the shows art style to much.

Im up to speed now on Hunter x Hunter so this new season came just at the right time for me.Havent looked yet at the shonen in winter 2014 yet but so far from what i have the no duds for me yet on the anime i have poted on.I just have to wonder this seasonal trend thing that strikes anime. We had treads of scissors now its historical figures.

@Marshal Victory:

I haven't watch The Vision of Escaflowne yet. For shonen shows, I have Magi then Fairy Tail for the spring season.

This series is going to have some romance element. I just realized the trailer is dead.

I remember one season has a lot of Nobunaga themed anime shows. I can't remember. This season we have 2 shows.

Post by Marshal Victory (1,913 posts) See mini bio Level 13

Yeah its almost like Nobunaga themed anime is a sub gene unto it self.Gender swaped animes with him was a thing for a while to.Now that i think on it this series seems to share a few things with The Vision of Escaflowne.Two planets,medivel style steampunk mechs,romance an tarot cards.

When The Vision of Escaflowne gets a rerelease im sure hulu will have it up.I consider it one of the best sword mech anime i have watched.Gona be hard now to watch this show an not compair a bit more now.But as a genral rule i really try to watch something for what it is,not what its closest to.

@takashichea: yeah 2nd one felt even more The Vision of Escaflowne like. Just bits an background characters atm tho.Its not bad. Some of the illustration is really nice actualy to.

@Marshal Victory:

I finished episode 2. I'm behind you in the winter guide. Been busy. Episode 2 has more "bounce." I swear I know the monkey's VA sounds familiar to me. I haven't look him up. I hope the new character Julius Caesar won't get back stabbed by his sidekick Brutus.

I should check out Escaflowne soon.

@takashichea: Acording to http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-08-10/funimation-adds-cowboy-bebop-escaflowne-outlaw-star-more

Funimation has it now.So should see a re release on blueray etc .I own the bandi dvds as it was one of the few anime Tom recomended to buy on dvd long ago.An i have to say it was pretty dang good.Dont really buy into the gee its like star wars line at all tho.

Nobunaga the Fool has many story aspects of The Vision of Escaflowne .. Sword mechs ,Mixed tech level world.Multiple planets,Concepts of destiny,Tarot cards,villian with sibiling heinchmen.So yah im kinda hoping that similarity stops like now.Cause each episode so far adds more.

@Marshal Victory:

I realize that Alibaba's VA is voicing the perverted monkey while Cloud Strife's VA is voicing Mitsuhide, the guy with the beauty mark. I thought that monkey guy's voice sound familiar.

Ok it is offical I'm watching this now for style over substance. The mech designs are awsome. The story seems silly comparied to the designs now. But im still gona watch.

It's interesting that Da Vinci destroyed his inventions and blueprints to avoid letting anyone from using as a weapon. In this anime, his mech is an instrument of war.

Love how in 4 The back grounds looked so well made. The gold in the background looks gold like not just yellow. Tons of style in this anime still not big on the historical names tho.

Post by Marshal Victory (1,913 posts) See mini bio Level 13

Fith one sure had alota action an political shadow play. One thing that struck me. if you take away the historical names an the fate cards . It has almost a old mechwarror feel to it. Clans an the way the ground forces fight along side the mechs.

Hmm beginning to think this may actually have something to say now which after the last one I was unsure. With the dads death and Caesar coming in for the daughter (is she supposed to be Cleopatra now?) we may have gotten to a more direct east west conflict so we may see some actual thought and theme. One thing I didn't get....oda's adviser at the end the one who poisoned him (right before an attack which was perfect timing...almost to perfect now that I think about it) mentioned that card and said he had made a mistake. Now he overheard vinci talking about the card so that is what he is referring to I assume but the mistake....he did allow oda to not get posinoned and the advisers will respect him now. So what was the mistake is he simply guilty over having the father die...not much he could have done about that...

Thoughts?

Post by Marshal Victory (1,913 posts) See mini bio Level 13

@zaldar: Thought the mistake he made was the poison an holding him back from the battle to long. Tho knowing they was coming would not require to much work nor even spie craft. But it could play out that way.

@zaldar:

Overhearing Da Vinci's talk about the Tower Card, Mitsuhide paralyzed Nobunaga to prevent him from being assassinated during battle. He made a grave error and realizes that he played a part in making Nobunaga get on the path of emotion destruction due to his father's death. If Mitsuhide didn't paralyze Nobunaga, Nobunaga would have fought not his father. His father would still be alive.

6 was epic. Its better for me when I ignore the historic names. Its a part of the show it could do even better without I think. But still a very complex did not see that coming. A fair amount of surprises now in the show. Along with great animation an style makes this a great series. At lest in whole up to this point.

@Marshal Victory:

Didn't expect a high body count. I'll miss Himiko the most. I didn't know Mitsuhide had the guts to kill his friend's brother. Note that Takahiro Sakurai voices two assassins, Mitsuhide and Jafar, this season.
