A portion of humanity managed to escape using enormous "seed ships" like the Sidonia, which have allowed them to maintain the population while drifting through space. Nagate Tanikaze is a young man who has been raised deep in the bowels of the ship. When he goes into training to pilot the huge robotic weapons known as Gardes, Nagate is entrusted with piloting the legendary unit known as Tsugumori. Pilot was good, almost awesome .

This is a close to heavy sci fi as your gona get in a mech anime. Heavy cgi to but its done in a cell shaded manor so its got it own look that fits.This could be a epic show. THey set up the reason the main character can be the ace pilot right off the bat. So you have fish out of water trope, mech vs alien trope in spaaace! Also it has gene manipulated humans an a 3rd sex..... eeew.

Please dont pull the "aliens were really us" card! Thats been done an almost always is a let down.

@Marshal Victory:

I might not be able to watch this show. I was interested in the show after uploading screencaps from Random Curiosity. Shame, it was only legal on Netflix. The only series I'm breaking my own rules is Soul Eater Not. For some reason, HULU hasn't stream Soul Eater Not, but it has streamed Selector Wixoss and others with delays.

Let me know if you need bumps.

@takashichea: Yeah looks like Knights will be on netflix only. where as Soul eater Not is on funimation!

So this is the Netflix show. I might check this out later.

@sickVisionz: Well simulcast by them . Not their own per say. If you like what some refer to has "hard" science fiction then this would be for you.Tho its a bit dry starting off.

2nd episode was good

We see the aliens for what they are an what happens when they eat a human whole. The cell shaded illustration style messhes with the cgi stuff well enuff. But at times its hard to tell who is who. Then again you have clones in there as well so that muddies things a bit to.

Not sure why i think this but the aliens might just have been a bio-weapon thats now come back to haunt humanity? Something feel off the way the leaders hide their faces as well.

Looking at the Twitter photo I posted. It's in the UK and Ireland region for Netflix unless Netflix is not region blocked.

3rd episode was good to.

But it raised a lot of interesting comments from people who are combat experts because of video games an not history or actual experience. Funny thing to those experts went out of there way to defend some one in the show who got others killed as not their fault. Anime as a whole is interesting to watch but some times other boards have comments that makes me wonder did the people posting even watch the show.

Course any more that can be said of things on Youtube or Hulu as well. Some could argue things have always been like this we just get to see it now more because of the Internet. Then again fiction does seem to become reality over time...

Which reminds me i really should buy this movie.But I digress the show was good. Just steer clear of comments on other sites.

Looking at the shots, the CG is a bit weird. Still haven't watch the episode. Just a small bump for you.

@takashichea: Its more like cell shaded that any thing. It's style works with the show enuff low light an what not in space.

4 was good. Tho the hot dog still acts like the hot dog an tries to steal the spot light. Show has some Attack on Titan feel to it as well. Space shop is the big walled cities. the aliens are the giants type comparison. Fairy bloody an im sure some would say more in the heavy range of sci-fi.

5 was good. Shows the no man left behind mentality that to many in politics lack in their spine.Ment in show an out sadly enuff.

Series really is more science like fiction than most sci-fi.

@Marshal Victory:

When I heard folks said this show had similarities to Attack on Titan, I broke my own rule and watched it illegally. After seeing two episodes, I definitely see the similarities.

  • 100 years of peace
  • Monsters eating humans
  • Stake of humanity
  • Military School

The first episode had a ton details which was explained in episode 2.

There is an evolutionary trade off.

  • Those who can photosynthesize don't need to eat as much. They can eat one meal a week.
  • For our main character, he cannot photosynthesize. He can heal faster than them.

I remember Tom and the others complain how Attack on Titan's soldiers look too alike and they are hard to distinguish. For this series, it's worse, but it has a reason. Humanity is dying out, so they cloned a lot of folks.

@takashichea: Yeah I'm doubting said crew would like this at 1st. Its kinda slow at times an those sister clones do not help matters. Plus in 6 it does a flash forward that will cause us to flashback later needlessly.

Mostly I am enjoying the series. Its animation style is crisp but not over detailed in illustration. Its sc-fi core is not soft an chewy like other anime sci-fi. It has rules an probable evolution of things. Not the wacky stuff the hard core survival stuff. Its almost predictable tho for me. Seen red shirts an they came true. That takes some of the tension out of the series for me. But it is still a fun watch.

Also of note shows back ground has a Pandora's Box aspect to it as well. Which hints not only are we not alone but their is something else beside the Gauna.

@Marshal Victory:

You're right. I tried recommending a show to fellow Vicer at the Anime Spring 2014 Season -- What's Bad? Vice Pit. I shouldn't have gone the compare anime route when recommending shows. I know Attack on Titan was very hyped and not everyone loves it. I'm in episode 4 now. I should catch up to you soon. I like the main character a lot than Attack on Titan's main character. He would risk his life to save his comrades. Damn, the screaming in the show is realistic but overbearing. It's good acting, but I had to close my ears a bit.

7 was what 6 should have been. So it had no real tension in it other than will he go after the person that caused that or not. Flash forward an flashbacks needlessly side by side like that do not flow well story wise for my tastes. But 7 was still worth watching.

Wonder if it will get to the point of explaining why the Gauna mimic what they eat. Cause if its the popular so they can communicate theory thats a bit lame as they would not go out of their way to hunt humans. Oh also their are two events in 7 that seem to not connect but sure tactic wise seem connected to me.

@Supreme Marvel:

I know your top four are Knights of Sidonia, Black Bullet, Nanana's Buried Treasure, and No Game, No Life.

So I have a 1/3th chance. I'm guessing Black Bullet because you love shows with powerful and interesting women.

Post by Supreme Marvel (5,176 posts) See mini bio Level 12

@takashichea: You got it in 1! I lie the lead, the art style also. 3 and 4 are hard to place. Nanana, at times can be good, then there are times when No Game, No Life can be amazing. So saying that, might be a bit easier.
