pilot an episode 2.

At 1st i thought this was a total reboot. An that would have been a real shame. But it looks like by the second episode it is not. Detective Coana over the years updated the world with out a reboot an looks like the same is done here.

Down side is this feels a bit dry with out a little back ground on the series. An people have begged Chrunchyrol to get the older series. Which really is in legal limbo. Rights to the character is settled but the older anime works not so much.Tho it can be found on you tube with subs even cough cough.

Now again this is gona be kinda dry but they do hold a lot of the older shows charm. Its not a version of Detective Conan or the other boy detective anime . The main character is wicked smart logical wise. But common sense is lacking.Would recommend looking up the old series 1st if can. Hopefully it will be re-released legally soon. This was always a more bloody , more how to than who did it.Sure it wold solve who did it But many of the older cases I watched were pretty logical about the deductions less instinctive on who done it.

Also it bothers me this has subs an Detective Conan does not have legal subs.A show in the 700s an always in the top 10 watched anime should have legal subs to.But I digress. This is not a bad show by any means an is not what people think of when they think anime boy detective shows. Its been remade as live tv series an I think a movie or two?

Edit" gona try an track down the older 140 some episodes an watch this season is lite for anime for me an im dropping series left an right . Plus one of my favortie mmorpgs has a game breaking bug for me atm :/ Would gladly buy the older series on blueray but that doesnt look like it will happen in my life time.

Edit 2. Oh part of the problem with the old series is the second case file has some guy with a hockey mask named Jason.. so ya theirs that.

3rd episode was bit dry in a way.

Kinda fills contrived. The shows updated but they do use the old into part with title an the main characters of this case file an as it goes on it shows who is dead. Some nice touches to try a retain the originals charm. But its bit colorful for the originals darker drama like aspect. Shame they do not use it original sounds to but im sure they are tied up legal wise.

The original series had more dark an drama aspects than most any "high school" or other wise detective anime. Things turned bloody or bad for the killers by the end.By no means am I saying this is unwatchable. Rather it is very watchable but has not captured the feel of the original as a whole just yet.

Plan on watching this new version as well as catching up on the older version which did like to dip into other more popular known characters not quite as a parody. Like "Jason" an the Phantom of the Opera.

New watchers should note this is not Detective Conan's type show. Its Usually a darker drama than Detective Conan with more deaths if thats possible.

4th was pretty good. They really are trying to capture the old series style with updated time line. Also of note this is the second time in the overall series a killer has got to model after she commits her crimes. Fashion before justice.

@takashichea: Thanks. Surprised others don't post on this series but its a odd one. With a main character thats kinda a looser but for his detective skills of noticing things an working out theory. Hes bit of a lazy kinda guy but the stories are pretty good even if one does not know the older series.

Episode 5 was pretty solid for a one off episode. Good amount of old characters mixed with a show case of why hes not as clean cut as other detective shows.

6 was good as it continued some of the parts from what seemed as a one off episode.

Early pick for the killer in this one is the camera man.

@takashichea: Hmm end music for 6 was playing as I posted. An I swear it almost sounded like what people today call country music. An its not on youtube for me to post a link argh!

Severn really felt like it had the old series mojo. An then the idal asks the friend her feelings tword the main character. Which was already covered in the old series. So its a partial reboot with modern stuff. Shame to one of his arch villains is great.

@takashichea: Thanks an did that song sound a little like cough "modern" country?

8 seems bit long for the arc. But thats the thing with the old series. Things rarely wrapped up where one thought they would. At this point would point to the girl who says shes the alchemist daughter. Which maybe be the sister of of the idol that killed herself . The guy who rigged the room numbers could be as well.

Problem is with this series that will drop clues to make you look left when its coming at ya right.Which makes it fun for me.

10 Finally has The Puppeteer from Hell! This ties directly into the older series. So glade they are just updating time like with Detective Conan an not doing a full reboot. The Puppeteer from Hell is the joker of the series. But hes not a clown prince of crime hes a magician of murder. He helps set up people so they can do crimes against those they have grudges with. But if they screw up his script or get caught he kills them to!

They even revived some of the shows drama music in this as well. Shame that not many seem to be interested in the series here. Its a pretty good detective show. With a detective thats defective way before Monk was a tv series. Kindaichi is a slacker of epic proportions. Hes about to fail high school in this episode but he has a analytical mind. Most likely the school work has always been below his iq level an bored him to the point of being lazy.

Oh 9 finally wrapped up the Alchemist arc. The 1st series was known for longer arcs. Seems from comments on few boards new younger viewers did not know or understand that in this series its about tension more so than action like with Detective Conan. Swear some people will not be happy till shows are just 15 minutes long cause they cant pay attention for 30.

@Marshal Victory:

I haven't watch Case Closed for a long time. Not sure if I was a big mystery fan. I loved Archie's Weird Mysteries and Case Closed for their characters.

Post by Marshal Victory (2,963 posts) See mini bio Level 14

@takashichea: Kindaichi case files always was slower an less action. They usually make each chapter arc 3 to 5 episodes like if it was a movie. If you like 80s mysteries then its great stuff. Seems some of the Case Closed crowd do not like it because its a slower story telling medium. An so boil down their arguments to well Conan would have this done in one episode. Which is silly because they are very different characters.

Kindaichi is more the slacker, bored an distracted by girls type. They have carried over the old shows charm an history mostly into the new series. An episode 11 carries on the Puppeteer from hell arc. Tho they do not flash back on how he became what he is. Hes a enabler of the darker side to people. Helping them do murder unless they screw up his perfect plans then he murders them. Some liken him to the Joker but thats silly. Joker is a force of insanity, Where as the Puppeteer is not insanity. Well not the same kind at least.

11 has the cram schools mansions an how they are like prisons. Makes me wonder if who wrote this had a really bad experience with cram schools. Oddly enuff this is the lead in for Detective Conan. An others have had the spot an not doe well. But this return series is hitting ratings gold.

12. Un oh he said the words so its on now!

KInda surprised so many died in this episode. Next one is part 4 so it may be the wrap up. This one I did not see the foreshadowing an that makes it all the more fun for me.

13 rolls on for this arc. Also seems the series has gained viewers. its seems to stay in the top 10 now. An its not because its a Detective Conan lead in as many fans of that show seem to dislike the slow pace of this one.

I bet this show doesn't have what Case Closed has:

subtle romance, unrequited love, and love triangle

Post by Marshal Victory (2,963 posts) See mini bio Level 14

@takashichea: Actually it does. Its less super heroic than Detective Conan but has a slower mystery reveal. But it does have subtle romance, unrequited love, and love triangle for sure. Tho the triangle is less in the returns than the original, it is still there tho. An the show holds the 10th most popular anime in ratings to with maybe a third to a half of its viewers different than Detective Conan. If what i read in other boards comments is right that is.

14 tied up the The Puppeteer from Hell arc. An it ends with the usual flare of his story arcs. Bad guys an guys doing bad things all suffer but he escapes to open the road of revenge for some one else. The arc was long way longer than most anime arcs but for me rewarding. Got to know the characters the who an the whys in this one fairly well.

Really wish of all the shows that are out there, more would look at this one to discuss the who an the whys. But its more ahem grown up mystery than comedy/ action. Its really not aimed at kids like Detective Conan is. Not to say Detective Conan does not have adult appeal just that this show really is aimed at a older demographic. At least one age group or tow up the scale me thinks.

@Marshal Victory:

I should have known not to make a blank guess. Mystery and romance go well together. I didn't have time to watch anime. You watched the most shows in any given season and discuss the most. I think I watch 80% of your list on average.

I've gotten through the first arc, it is a pretty interesting show, having updated the original series to fit in this era, but I just don't have time to watch as many anime as I used to. Heck, I've only just now finished Chaika and there's still a couple from last season I need to finish but don't know if I will.

Post by Marshal Victory (2,963 posts) See mini bio Level 14

15 was start of a short arc looks like. But with this show its hard to tell. One of the things I like about it.

@takashichea: Romance goes with mystery shows more in anime I think. Their staples like bread of a good anime mystery show.

@DocHaus: Lucky for me I have more time than not for anime. Even hold over shows I'm always looking at new "old" shows seems. This one for me is fun an reminds me of days when me an my father would watch tv mystery shows an guess who done it. The crew of this returns have done a great job. An as it progresses it seems they have added more of the older music style an flair. Its not a reboot just a time update. Wish more older shows were done this way an not the reboot route.
