Episode 6: And the Winner Is...

The night before the big Pro-Bending Championship match, Amon makes an eerie announcement that leaves the whole city on edge. Not wanting to succumb to a terrorist, Korra pleads that they should continue the games despite the threats. However, the Equalists have something much more devastating planned than interrupting a petty game.

Plot Summary

As Korra, Bolin, and Mako train for the match against Tahno and the Wolfbats for the Pro-Bending Championship, they feel motivated that they will beat the smugness right out of their competitors. While they talk, Amon hijacks the radio airwaves once more to announce that he and the Equalists plan on raiding the game tonight and if they know what's best, they'll shut it down. The Fire Ferrets race to City Hall where Korra uses her influence as the Avatar to gain audience with the Council. However, they have decided that it is for the safety of innocent civilians that they shut it down; a rare moment where Tarrlok and Tenzin agree. Korra states that the Pro-Bending games is a place where benders and non-benders get along and doing this is letting Amon win. Tarrlok disagrees as Lin enters, stating her reluctance to agree with Korra. After persuading and stating to set up her metal bending police around the stadium, Tarrlok switches his vote as the other Councilors switch except Tenzin.

Lin and Tenzin discuss the matter as Lin knows that they can not keep hiding in the shadows from Amon and face him head on. She gives Korra the cold shoulder as Tenzin states that Lin was on good relations with Aang and knew him since he was a child. Korra deduces that Lin is the one Pema stole from Tenzin away from as he admits that there was a time when they felt that way but grew more and more apart. Elsewhere in the city, the Lieutenant announces that the Council went ahead and kept the arena open for the night. Amon chuckles, stating that this is all going according to his plans. Later that night, Tenzin approaches Lin to check the security. She vouches that all is well as Tenzin pleads for her and Korra to get along since she has nothing to do with her scorned past. Lin agrees as the arena begins to fill up.

The match gets started as the Fire Ferrets and Wolfbats enter the arena. The two begin right out the gate as Tahno and his team push aggressively with the referee turning a blind eye to the fouls that are going on. After almost losing a round, the group and crowd deduce that the Wolfbats paid the referees to look the other way. Korra wants to cheat right back but Mako knows they have to play fair. During the second round, a tie breaker is held as Korra and Tahno go head to head with Korra defeating and humiliating Tahno in the process as the game is tied. In the end, the Wolfbats go so far as to chuck rocks at the Fire Ferret's heads, causing a Knock Out and leading them to win as champions for the fourth year in a row. As the audience, including a passionate Tenzin, boo the Wolfbats, Equalist patrons disguise themselves and pull out gloves that have electrical attacks. Tenzin spots them but is too late to save Lin or himself as they make quick work of the guards. In the water below, the Lieutenant electrifies the pool with the Fire Ferrets in it, knocking them out.

After most of the officials and police have been dealt with, Amon emerges from below the ring with a group of chi-blockers. Subduing Tahno and the Wolfbats effortlessly, Amon performs his energy bending and robs the three of their abilities. He condemns the crowd for watching a game where bullies were allowed to win and cheat their way to victory as it provides a good analogy about how benders always oppress the non-benders or the weak. While this is going on, Korra has another flashback of Aang, Toph, and an unknown man who she saw in her earlier flashback. During all of this, Amon announces that they will stop at nothing with their new technology to make benders obsolete as they flee by balloon, blowing up the Arena in the process. Korra manages to get free as she goes after Amon with the help of Lin.

On the roof of the Arena, Korra and Lin fight off the chi-blockers and the Lieutenant as Korra does her best to get into the zeppelin that Amon escaped to. After spotting Lin being ambushed, Korra lets it go as she isolates Lieutenant while Lin takes care of the other chi-blockers. Korra is able to knock the Lieutenant off the Arena and take care of the rest while Lin uses her metal bending to attach herself to the zeppelin. However, Korra falls through the glass ceiling as Lin lets Amon get away to save Korra. The two make amends for their differences as they observe the destroyed metal bending zeppelins and trucks. Tenzin now knows that they are at full blown war with the Equalists.
