All You Need Is Kill is a science-fiction novel (not a manga in the traditional sense) by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, and illustrated by Yoshitoshi Abe. It was nominated for a Seiun Award in Japan (the Japanese equivalent to the Nebula Awards for science-fiction literature).
Plot
The story focuses on the main protagonist named Keiji Kirirya, a new recruit in Earth's United Defense Force who are locked into a war with an alien invader species known as Mimics. During his first mission he is killed in battle but inexplicably finds himself caught in a time loop in which he is forced to relive his final day, again and again, always meeting the same deadly fate. As he tries desperately to change that fate he becomes ever more experienced and proficient as a soldier.
During one of Keiji's repeated days he encounters another soldier named Rita, but known by the moniker Full Metal Bitch. She is regarded as a hero in the conflict but is in actuality also caught in a time loop like Keiji. Can she be the answer he is searching for?
