Alice Maresato is a seven year-old girl from Tokonosu City that lost her father. She was rescued by Takashi and his friends, and adopted into their team.
Alice Maresato is a seven year-old girl who was on the run with her news reporter father when the outbreak of Them (zombies) hit Tokonosu Prefecture. Her father was murdered by other humans who were held up inside a house. Her father was just trying to get them to take them both in or at least save his daughter. Out of fear, the people inside only opened the door and stabbed her father to silence him and closed the door again. Her father's yelling had already attracted a swarm of Them. Now over her father crying and alone with the undead out to get her, Alice was thought to be next. She was rescued by a second-year high school boy named Takashi Komuro and adopted into the group of survivors that he led.

Alice's personality is innocent and passive. She's the only member of the group that tends keep a cheerful attitude despite all their troubles and the loss of her parents. Looking up to everyone in the group as a bigger brother and sister, she is unwilling to leave them even if it's for her own safety.
Alice is often seen playing around with a small dog named Zeke whom they had picked up while saving Alice, and all the members of the survivors have bonded with her. Many look to try and keep the darkness of the world from her. Saya and Alice have a very sister-like relationship. Saya can tend to be strict at times with her but also gave her the nickname of "Munchkin". While staying at a local mall, Alice was able to get a bike and showed remarkable skill in performing stunts. It was also here that Alice and Saya selected new more practical clothes for their journey.
It was a few days into the outbreak on Tokonosu City when Alice and her father were on the run. When she asked where her mother was, he only told her that they'd see her later. He found a house with the lights still on and desperately banged on the door and begged them to let him and his daughter in. They refused so he just asked them to save her. They opened the door when he threatened to break it down, but rather than letting her inside. She could only watch as they stabbed him in her gut with a knife on a pole and shut the door again, leaving her to die. Alice's Father lied and told her that he's be fine. He asked her to run and hide somewhere that no one could find her. She refused to leave him and clung to him as he passed away. The mass of the undead were attracted by her heartbroken crying.
As the swarm neared her, they started to suddenly fall around her. Someone nearby was using a sniper rifle to save her. She hid against a wall and small puppy appeared to attempt to defend her. Not too long after, a young teen named Takashi appears on a motorbike to save her. After he and his sniper friend were able to clear the immediate area and lock the gate. Takashi took a nearby shirt and placed it over her father's face. He told her she had a great father and gave her a flower to place on his body. After crying over the loss of her father, she asked how they were going to get away. With Alice riding on Takashi's back and the puppy stuffed in his shirt, he walked along the high and narrow wall that separated the houses from the streets teaming with Them. It was on the wall that she had to admit to him that she needed to pee and couldn't wait any longer. Unable to do anything about it, he gave her permission to go as he held her. They were picked up in a massive humvee by the friends of Takashi. Takashi jumped on and they rode away to safety.
During the ride to the river, she sang songs with Kohta Hirano, but Saya Takagi took exception when Kohta started making up his own lyrics about guns. On the other side of the river, she got to know the rest of Team Takashi. There's Saeko Busujima, Rei Miyamoto, and Shizuka Marikawa. They even named the puppy, Zeke. After the girls changed into new clothes, the group moved deeper into the town and there seemed to be no people or undead. That drastically changed when the numbers suddenly grew and the humvee crashed into a wire barricade that had been placed in the road.
Rei had fallen off and Takashi went after her. It really seemed as there was no escape. Alice tried to help by giving Kohta replacement magazines for his rifle, but the numbers were far too great. Kohta then took Alice and told her to climb over the fence and that they would join her later. She screamed at him, calling him a liar. He was making the same face her father did right before he died. She cried that she didn't want to be alone and wanted to stay with them no mater what. Before Kohta could force Alice over the fence to save her life, an unknown group called out for them to get down. They were equipped with portable high pressured water cannons. They moved the fence to allow their escape through and held back Them. The leader of these saviors turned out to be Saya's own mother, Yuriko Takagi.
From there, they were taken to the Takagi Estate that was being used as a make-shift fortress and shelter. Alice was crying that first real night after losing her father. She only got to sleep after Shizuka joined her in bed to hold her. Alice spent a day being pampered with some new clothes and cake while she played with Zeke. She was adapting remarkably well. While Takashi and the rest were having a serious discussion about the group's future together, Rei kept Alice in the bedroom with her so she wouldn't be a witness to the heated words. She was scared by Kohta and Takashi when they left. She told him that he and Kohta were fighting because they must not have enough to do, and she ran off to find him.
Not soon after, a group of adults were trying to bully Kohta into relinquishing his weapons. Alice and their rest of his friends gathered around to defend him. When Saya's father, Soichiro Takagi, asked his daughter to speak on his behalf to some of the people in the estate, Alice wanted to join. Saya's mother, Yuriko, instead asked Saya to come with her for a present.
She's later watching as Takashi test drove an amphibious vehicle they were given. He and Rei were planning to go out looking for their parents before returning. Rei quickly ran off when she saw a former teacher who had manipulated her school marks, forcing her to repeat a grade. Shizuka covered Alice's eyes as Rei was threatening to kill the man. Once the the event had calm down, Alice reminded Shizuka about the call she wanted to make to her friend. The call was cut short when an EMP was set off by a nuclear bomb detonating in the atmosphere. All the electronics were unusable.
The Takagi Estate came under attack from the infected. Without power the security was not working and the night made it difficult to see. They quickly brought down the gate. Takashi and the rest were ready to run, Yuriko encouraged her daughter to also escape and said goodbye to Alice. They rode on to the highway, but it was overrun. Takashi had the idea that he and Saeko would use the amphibious vehicle to draw their attention as Alice and the rest moved through quietly. They arrived at the Taiei Shopping Town and waited till the next morning for Takashi and SAeko to return.
At the mega-mall, Alice enjoyed walking the halls and looking through the stores. She helped to check and make sure all the entrances were secured, and she imitated Saya in trying to analyze the situation they were in. Saya didn't take kindly at being called "Saya-chan" and told her to address her as "Saya-onesama", pinching her cheeks to drive the point home. With that done, Alice and Saya went in search for new clothes. She chose a dress with jeans and a flannel shirt. While everyone was talking, no one had realized Shizuka was missing until she asked. She had come under attack from another human survivor in the mall but was saved by Kohta and a young police woman, Asami Nakaoka.
Alice played Rock, Paper, Scissors with Kohta as Takashi talked about the next step in their trip, and an elderly lady staying at the mall was in desperate need of a blood transfusion. Kohta, Takashi, Asami, and another man went on a mission to get the equipment they needed. They got the tools, but one man died in the effort. Alice was able to select a bike for her to ride. The girls weren't sure about her riding on her own and thought she'd be better to ride on the back of Kohta's bike. Alice showed them just how wrong they were by demonstrating an incredible talent for bike tricks.
Saya was now calling Alice by the nickname of "Munchkin". They sat in the cafeteria and watched as Asami began flirting with Kohta. She Saya if she as worried since she believe they are together. Saya told her that she can't be the best at everything, but Alice said she liked it when Saya was the best. Alice chased after Zeke who ran to the window. Looking into the parking lot, she saw a lady police officer that had been changed. Asami heard this and was devastated to see this woman. It was her superior officer, Matsushima, who had left to get help.
She asked when she could get a weapon to fight, like the rest. Kohta told her that he and Takashi were her weapons so she wouldn't need to fight. With hope lost along the other survivors about a rescue from the police, the mall fell into chaos. One of them attacked a member and ran out, leaving the entrance open to Them. They needed to escape now, and Asami gave her a large bag of fireworks to use as distractions. She made good use of these while they ran from the mall. She swiftly rode through the crowd and tossed her fireworks in the distance to draw away the undead. Asami wasn't able to join them for long. She sacrificed herself to save another person and got trapped. She pleaded with Kohta to kill her before they could change her, an he fulfilled her wish.
Kohta had a breakdown after he killed Asami and was nearly lost. She tried to tell him that he understood how he felt since she watched her father die in front of her. It was Shizuka who got through to him by treating him like a soldier falling behind on his duty.
They eventually reached the police station that Rei's father worked, but it was just another empty location filled with the undead. They searched the area for weapons and found them in the evidence locker. Alice found a working computer in the communications building, then they went to the office of Rei's father. On a whiteboard in the room Rei's dad had left a message that the a mass evacuation was being held at the Shintoko Third Elementary School, the school Takash's mother worked at.
Knowing that Rei's father was safe, they were now on the search for her mother. The weather was looking bad and they stopped at a convenience store to get some food and ponchos for protection. The path was cut off in all directions by Them. When Takashi suggested a path through some houses, Alice dashed off on her bike to scout the area before anyone could stop her. She crashed her bike in the wet grass and fell, Saya chasing after to save her. The yard she was in was filled with the undead. Saya told her to stay down as she used the rifle she got at the police station to shoot the infected and Saeko cut down the rest. Saya scolded Alice for doing something so risky.
When they reached the area of Rei's home, they found her mother, Kiriko Miyamoto, shouting outside of a house. The people she had been staying with this whole had turned on her and kicked her out. After she joined their team, everyone now made a move for the Shintoko Third Elementary School for the evacuation.
Alice is not a fighter of the group, and many in Takashi's group goes to great lengths to prevent her from ever having to fight. While they took refuge in a local mall, Asami Nakaoka, a police officer, gave Alice some firecrackers that she could use to distracted Them if she was ever cornered.
