The Philisophical Jujitsu master, and one of the martial arts mentors to Kenichi Shirahama.
When Kenichi first arrived at Ryozanpaku, the other masters quickly decided that the gentle, even-natured Akisame would be the best person to handle Kenichi's basic training, however, the otherwise serene jujitsu master is revealed to have a comically sadistic side as he gleefully drives Kenichi through Hellish, gruelling training. Luckily, he's shown to know what he's doing, as his sometimes unconventional training pays off and Kenichi's muscles experience subtle yet rapid growth.
Something of a renaissance man, Akisame has great skill in sculpting, calligraphy, acting, strategic board games, bone-setting, invention, and even developed an innovative form of training which allowed him to hone his body in such a way that it retained no useless muscles. It is through his medical expertise that he earns his money, as he runs an osteopathic clinic. Because of his knowledgeable nature, calm demeanour and insight, he's often the first person that Kenichi turns to for advice.
Alike all the other Ryozanpaku senseis, Akisame is a "master" class fighter, which in the History's Strongest Disciple franchise, equates to a martial artist of superhuman prowess. As such, he displays feats of speed, strength and perception far beyond what is possible in reality. Also, as part of Ryozanpaku, he upholds the principle that martial arts should be used to preserve life, and opposes the criminal organization Yami which views martial arts as a tool for killing. He is especially displeased by Yami's treatment of its young disciples, which he views as a corrupting and harmful influence.
Akisame was once the best friend of Miu's father Saiga, and is the one responsible for bringing Shigure to Ryozanpaku, as well as granting her a name.
