Get Your Akira Blu-Ray While It's Hot

If you wanted to snatch up the remastered Blu-Ray Akira, you may want to consider doing so pretty soon after its release on February 24. According to the most recent mailer from Bandai, the BD offering has sold out on the distribution level, which means that whatever the stores have ordered up to now is what they'll get until the next batch goes to print.

Now, the second press isn't going to be a terribly long wait-- it'll be out March 10 –but the latest Bandai mailer notes that the second press will not include the slipcase or 32-page booklet that comes with the first press. This won't drop the $49.98 (USD) MSRP, unfortunately, and I'm told the second press is going pretty fast too.

So if this is something you want, it's probably in your best interest not to wait too long, because they're apparently pre-selling like hotcakes.

From what I've read there's hardly any difference noticeable in the Akira blu-ray version video wise though there's supposed to be an impressive audio upgrade with this release that you'd notice more if you have a fancy audio system.

Void_Wizard: I've heard it's actually pretty impressively done, but that's primarily from Bandai employees, so take it with a grain of salt. If you don't already have a copy (and you have a BD player), I'd say it's worth considering (which I am).

I have never seen Akira, seeing other people are disdaining it as a rip-off of Blade Runner or amongst those lines... Now I really can watch Akira

Oops my bad I thought reviewed the blu-ray version and they haven't yet. I don't have a blu-ray player and probably won't have one till 2010 at the earliest which is fine with me I don't see that big of a difference with it myself.
