A secret military project threatens the destruction of Neo-Tokyo when it turns a biker gang member into a rampaging psionic psychopath, who can only be stopped by his best friend, a young woman, and a group of psionic children.
A lengthy sci-fi drama set in a dystopian future Tokyo. The story revolves around Kaneda and his close friend Tetsuo. The manga and the anime film vary, the manga consists of more side stories and slightly altered events. Akira is "known" for it's confusing and lengthy plot. Akira is best-known in the U.S. for the anime film, one of the imports that immediately preceeded the American anime boom.
