Akio is Nagisa's rough and childish father. He often falls victim to his wife Sanae's horrible bread, but pretends to like it, lest she cries.

Akio is actually very sympathetic and kind, though he often plays rough. He is childish, and often plays baseball with children in a park near the Furukawa bakery. While he, as everyone else, detests his wife  Sanae ’s abominable bread, he pretends to like it when around her to prevent her from crying. Akio was once a successful actor, but had to quit due to Nagisa’s poor health. He is often, like Sunohara, used as comic relief.  
 
  Akio Furukawa and  Sanae Furukawa both run the Furukawa Bread Shop.
