Even French Kids Think Japan is Too Trusting

It's a classic story-- I can almost imagine an ABC Family original movie based on it. A bunch of middle-class French teens attending an international school in Japan have difficulty with their wealthier classmates, so they get into stealing.

This was a pretty audacious scheme, though: they literally would walk out of an Akihabara SofMap (think a Japanese Best Buy) with games and consoles, no questions asked. Then they would sell the games and consoles back at another nearby store...also owned by SofMap.

But the best part? Upon arrest, one of the suspects said: “Stealing is simple in Japan. Japanese people shouldn't be so easily trusting of people.”

Rubbing salt in the wound much? Sheesh!

It's because most Japanese are raised to not misbehave unlike most westerners who wouldn't have a second thought about stealing if there were no one around who could see the deed. However the French revolutionary spirit can do good things too. Where would we be without the Enlightenment era philosophers? Still live like slaves under a feudal lord I bet.

This is why Japanese hate foreigners, stupid assholes.

Don`t be conceded. They were smart and they took advantage of something they knew they would get away with, even if they went a little too far and got caught. Reminds me of what happened in 06 because of the movie Firewall. While i condone such things, i applaud them for being smart. This would not only get the Japanese security system tightened, things would hardly change.

Same thing, if they were smart they wouldn't have gone that far. Also, they tried to sell the items to another store part of the same company, how dumb is that?

From the way the article was worded, they had been doing this for some time. This was strongly enforced by what the french kid said about Japanese being too trusting. So yea, they have been doing this for some time. Either one of them got too careless and went too far or the japanese security system got extremely tightened when things went missing after checking the stocks.

By nature I trust people but I don't trust most people with money or anything of value. This is because I catch my self thinking 'it would be easy just to take that'. I'm not a thief but if I think it so do other people and some may act on in. That why you need to ask for receipts and have RFID sensors at your doors. It not that you don't trust people, it just knowing that there are people out their you can't trust.

Just because they CAN and even if the Japanese are "too trusting" does not excuse them or make what they did in any way, shape, or form, worth applauding for. I say send the bastards to Singapore so they learn why everyone decides to be so nice to each other...

Am I the only "Westerner" that's slightly offended by some of this thread? People are getting really skewed information if they think for a second that "most" of us are raised to be criminals.
