Otaku capital of the world.

Akihabara, also known as Akihabara Electric Town (Akihabara Denki Gai /秋葉原電気街), is located in Tokyo, Japan. Its name is often shortened to Akiba.

There are many different types of goods that otaku will love from computer and electric goods to anime paraphenelia. The most recent products are usually seen on Chūōdōri, the main street in Akiba. There is also a major section for used productsin Soto Kanda 3-chōme.
Akiba actually features some duty free shops as well as ordinary shops. There are tours available in English for visiting gaijin.

World War II started Akiba's trend for electronic goods with its first products being radio goods, vacuum tubes, and other electrical needs. From there, Akiba expanded to washing machines, televisions, and refrigerators. When the Famicom ("family computer") was released, more computer goods started flooding into the shopping district. In the '90s, anime started flourishing stores along with PCs when Windows PC was released.
