So...we'll just ignore the obvious jokes about racism for now and read the press release. Apparently the game has already “gone gold,” which is interesting, since I didn't know there was a sales certification system for video games. Ahem. In the music industry, the RIAA certifies that an album has gone “gold” when it sells 500,000 copies. I'm not sure how much I believe that they've already got 500,000 preorders for the game, but, well, whatever it means, congratulations to Bandai Namco. (EDIT: I've been educated that "going gold" just means the game is complete and in the process of being replicated and distributed. Thanks, HSaabedra!)
Then there's some interesting theorizing on gamers as a target audience:
“Gamers are an emerging loyal fan base akin to those of traditional sports like football or basketball. According to the Entertainment Software Association, 65% of American households play computer or video games. We made a strategic decision to be more steadfast in spending time, research and money in targeting to this growing influential segment.”
As for Church's...in addition to promoting the game, they're running a sweepstakes that you can win a bunch of money or an Afro Samurai iPod in. Enjoy!
