With a kid like that, no wonder there aren't any parents around!
In plenty of anime where the kids are the heroes (or at least main characters), there seem to be a lack of parental help in their lives. There are plenty of reasons offered for this: Parents are on a job that takes them overseas, running away from terrorists, killed by demons, or some other fate that leaves them absent from their children's life. Despite this, their kids are somehow able to keep owning a home with running water and power. Some anime don't even offer so much as an excuse; the parents are gone and that's that.
Note that this concept of Absent Parents may not always mean lack of adults completely. The MC might treat a teacher, boss or other adult like a surrogate parent if the show provides one.
