The team safely returns to their home village of Konoho and things are back to the way they were before. Kakashi arrives late again to another meeting and says in a calm manner, "I got lost today." Naruto is back to his energetic self and demands that the team go on another huge mission. However, Naruto is given more low missions such as walking dogs, pulling weeds, and cleaning up the trash.Once the team finishes their missions for the day, Naruto and Sasuke have an argument that reveals how their teamwork is suffering. Kakashi leaves to go submit his mission reports, and Sasuke walks off. A strange moving box approaches Naruto and Sakura. Naruto yells that the box is such a fake disguise, and Konohamaru and his friends jump out. Sakura is drooping around, sad about how Sasuke turned her down. When Konohamaru gets mistaken

that Sakura is Naruto's girlfriend she gets angry and punches Naruto and Konohamaru.

A pair of strange shinobi from the Sand Village appears in front of the group. One is a blonde kunoichi with a large fan strapped on her back. The other is a ninja dressed in black with purple face paint, and appears to be holding a mummy on his back. The male ninja grabs Konohamaru by the neck. Naruto charges in to try to free him, but the stranger moves his fingers in a strange manner and Naruto looses his balance. Just as the sand ninja is about to punch Konohamaru, a rock hits him on the hand. The rock was thrown by Sasuke who is sitting on the branch of a nearby tree. The sand ninja takes the mummy from his back and prepares to fight Sasuke; however, another voice coming from the tree tells him to stop. It is another sand ninja with

red hair and dark eyes. He addresses the sand ninja in black as Kankuro. Kakashi and the other jounin are called to a meeting with the hokage. The hokage informs them that the chuunin selection exam will begin shortly.
