A Failure Stands Tall! - 憧れの人の目の前で!! (Akogare no hito no me no mae de!!)

Summary

Opening Theme-

"Haruka Kanata (遥か彼方)" by Asian Kung-Fu Generation (Japan)

"Rise" by Jeremy Sweet and Ian Nickus (U.S. TV)

The episode begins where the last one left of as Neji continues to put down Hinata, which angers Naruto who promptly tells Hinata to stand up to Neji. Hinata takes in his encouragement as Neji notices a change in her stance, getting ready to fight as the two Hyuga's clash back and forth with their Byakugans. The two eventually make contact with one another and it is Hinata who is inflicted despite the fact that they hit each other at the same time. The jonin and the Fourth Hokage analyze that Neji is stronger with his chakra flow and in his attacks. Hinata tries again to attack, but Neji quickly pierces her arm, blocking her flow of chakra.

From up above, Naruto and Sakura wonder what is going on exactly as Kakashi explains the chakra system and how the hundreds of ports can be opened and closed to redirect and halt chakra in a persons body. He also explains that the Byakugan is capable of seeing those points on a person and that something like his Sharigan can not. As Hinata succumbs to her wounds, falling over, she remembers Naruto's words as she remembers the times she saw him fail miserably but continued to push forward, wanting to be just like him. As Hinata gets back to her feet, Kurenai has the same thought as she knows Hinata trains the hardest out of her team, but at the same time has a weak constitution and little self confidence in her abilities.

Neji continues to berate Hinata about things such as destiny and how she is a weak member of the head family of the Hyuga Clan, but with more support from Naruto, she claims that she is a ninja and won't stop no matter what. Her injuries are still prevalent as Neji strikes her down once more. However, when Hinata get sup for the last time, she mentions how Neji is still a member of the branch family and she is in the head, which enrages Neji. He charges to attack Hinata even though the other jonin tell him to stop as he is the clear victor, but he does not relent, only ceasing when Kurenai, Gai, Kakashi and Hayate stop him.

Even though Neji is the winner, Gai reprimands him for getting angry again over the Hyuga clan issues, claiming that he was stopped since he almost killed his cousin. During this, Hinata collapses from internal injuries, Naruto, Sakura, and Rock Lee jumping down to attend to her. As Kurenai checks on Hinata, Neji chastises Naruto for not only interfering with his match but also being a dropout who knows nothing. Naruto wants to fight him then and there, but Rock Lee stops him, saying that things must be done fairly as well as he also wants to teach his team mate a lesson in respect. Kurenai panics as Hinata starts to go into cardiac arrest, the medic team rushing to get her out as Naruto sulks about how hurt she was. Noticing some of her blood, he wipes it on his hand, pointing at Neji as he claims he will seek revenge for what he did to Hinata.

Ending Theme-
