My favourite hot springs episode will always be Fumoffu's. Also, poor Gendou is left out. Daww.

One of the most awesome aspects of Japan, the hot springs ;)

If you wanted to see the hot spring that's aboard the Archangel in Gundam Seed, they actually have a clip of Cagalli and Lacus sitting in it at some part of Gundam Seed Destiny... how on Earth they fit one onto a space battle ship I have no idea...

@Sigue: It's not that I don't think he could be fun, I just expect that he'd eventually shaft me over in all the wrong ways...you know, like he does to everyone else =P
@Newten: Oh man, I went to one, and they even said on their site that they weren't one of the super-duper-hot ones, and I was STILL nearly scalded O_O I don't know how they do it!

@gia: Haha wow. But was it atleast still enjoyable? And you should have mentioned you'd been to one in the video, you could have given your own personal take on them. So, did you go in wearing something, with a towel, or butt-naked?
Oh also, I renamed the page from onsen to Hot Springs, afterall there is a seperate box for the Japanese name. I gave it a slightly better description too. I think I should have some images to go on that page too...

Some actual Hot Spring action - Game Center CX did a Hot Spring x classic video game episode.

@Slim: All subbed by TVN :)

Good one. Another series that is heavy on the hot springs is Nagasarete Airantou. They all have one in their houses.

One of the top ten places I have to go to if I ever get to visit Japan.

I never realized this until today... there are a lot of hot springs around

Wow, almost all animes do have a hot spring scene. Even Persona 4 has a hot springs section.
rocketbomberon Dec. 19, 2009 at 6:25 p.m.
@gia: There are naturally occurring hot springs all around the Pacific Rim, including California -- how close are you to Calistoga?
giaon Dec. 19, 2009 at 7:37 p.m.
@Newten: Oh, buck nekkid. Japanophiles that we are, we wanted to go all traditional-style. ;) I thought about going more personal, but we really didn't have time. The video is technically over 3 minutes ;)
@Slim: Hakone, the place in that first video, is where I went for my hot spring experience. If you want a cheap onsen experience, stay at Kappa Tengoku-- it's priced almost like a hostel (I think we paid like $35-40 each for the night), and we had a private tatami room with futon layout and yukata and all that jazz. Almost like a super-cheap ryoukan...no tea service or anything, but hey, for that cheap we were amazed at how nice it was.
Hakone is also a really cool place to just wander. We went kind of up for a hike to see a bunch of the little waterfalls, just from the town. Gorgeous, gorgeous area, and fairly near Tokyo.
@FoxxFireArt: Oof, couldn't bring myself to watch more than an episode of that show ;)
@Matte: As I said earlier in this giant mass of responses, Hakone is a great place for hot spring tourism-- when we were there (late May) it wasn't very busy or tourist-filled, and it's fairly near Tokyo, so easy to get to :)
@rocketbomber: Actually we're only about an hour and a half from Calistoga...but after how hot the Japanese hot springs were, I'm a little nervous about trying 'em again! @_@

The anime version actually pulls back on a lot of fanservice from the manga. I enjoyed the manga more, and one of my favorite characters doesn't even appear in the anime until about Episode 18.
Something I notice about harem series. It's never my favorite girl that wins out in those series. It's always predictable. It always seems to be the first girl the lead meets.

Episode four of Tenchi Muyo OVA was the first hot spring episode in a anime for me.

@rocketbomber: Hey I went to the Calistoga hotsprings once!  I have no memory of it, other than the hotel.  So it couldn't have been THAT great.  There definitely weren't the sort of sexy hyjinks going on that anime hot spring episodes  would lead you to expect.  Or maybe that was just happening elsewhere.
PS: background graphic worked great!  thanks!
rocketbomberon Dec. 19, 2009 at 9:22 p.m.
@AHR: I'm pleased as punch that my 'shop got attached to a topic this ecchi^H^H^H^H^H epic.  I'd say I was also pleasantly surprised at how the blocking turned out with Gia added -- except, of course [*cough*] obviously I planned it that way.  obviously.
My Aunt used to own a bed-and-breakfast in Calistoga, from when I was 14 or so up until about 5 years ago.  I've been many times.  Though we seldom made it out of the wineries (...yes, starting at age 14... times were different then) with enough energy to go to a spa -- most nights the fam and the guests (whoever was around and staying at the lodge)  would hang out at the pool, or around the fireplace depending on the season, stay up all hours and drink more wine.  Good Times, Good Times.  Nothing to do with anime, of course; just braggin'.
Still, I've been to Calistoga often enough to know about the hot springs there, even if I am so (overly) familiar with the other draws of the Napa Valley that I've never actually seen them.
