1.28 is an anime episode of Death Note that was released on 06/19/2007
After Takada's death, television shows everywhere are begging to be Kira's new spokesperson. Just then, Near calls the entire Task Force to have a meeting the day after tomorrow, January 28th at 1 PM. While Matsuda and Ide are excited and curious as to what Near and the SPK have to inform the Task Force, Aizawa secretly fears that all of them will die that day.
When the day has come, Near contacted the task force to tell them that he has released Misa, who is staying at Teito Hotel’s Deluxe Suite. Light calls her to confirm that. The entire Task Force has revealed to have locked the Death Note in their safe. Light has Mogi put the Death Note in a specialized sleeve that will be kept under his coat when finally at the warehouse.
While in a car, Light thinks to himself of planning to kill the entire Task Force and SPK, those who know the existence of the Death Note.
Outside the Yellow Box Warehouse, Aizawa confirms that he saw Near and the SPK inside. By the time they get inside, they see Near is wearing the same mask L wore. Light calls him inferior for that and Near tells him that the mask is a precaution. He asks that everyone wait for at least 30 minutes to see if someone actually is under Kira’s control will die. Matsuda is not liking this, but Aizawa agrees, saying that if Near’s suspicions of Light as Kira are true, then even his own men in the Task Force have no use for him except to be controlled a final time with the Death Note.
After a 30-minute wait, Near removes his mask as he is waiting for X-Kira to come. He continues to explain that the door they are standing in front of is the only way to see inside the warehouse and that X-Kira, the one currently carrying out Kira’s killings, will definitely open that door to look at everyone’s names with his Shinigami eyes and write them in his own Death Note. He then asks everyone to allow X-Kira to write their names down and to not acknowledge his presence when he arrives to peek through the door.
Just then, Mikami arrives and sees everyone's lifespans except Light's, leading him to realize that he is Kira, his god. He then begins to write in his Death Note. Matsuda pulls out his gun, but the SPK told him to put down his gun as Near explains that none of them will die because he modified the notebook and that the only person's name is not written down will be Kira. Light thinks it goes exactly as he planned.
Time stops as Light thinks that Near has the fake notebook and that Mikami has the real one.
Afterwards, he calls Mikami and asks him if he finished writing down everyone's names. Near questions why he would answer so honestly to Light. Light then asks Mikami how long it has been since he wrote down the first name into the notebook and Mikami looks at his watch and counts to 40, the number of seconds it takes for the Death Note to take effect. Once 39 seconds have passed, Light proudly declares that he has won.
